Patriotic Jell-O Shots (alcoholic)
This 4th of July jello shot recipe with alcohol looks really impressive, but is not hard to pull off at all. The most time consuming part is waiting for the layers to set. So when you see this recipe takes 6-8 hours just realize that’s just it sitting in the fridge hardening into a fantastic boozy treat for your Fourth of July BBQ extravaganza!
This recipe makes 40-50 shots… ooo wee! Let’s get the party started!
Use vodka for this recipe to make the perfect jello shots. If you adorn the top of them with whipped cream and some festive red, white, and blue sprinkles you’re holiday spread will look like it’s been decked out by a professional party planner.
To keep with the patriotic theme add in some 4th of July pretzel rods and more red, white, and blue appetizers too. Wish these were nonalcoholic? Here’s a booze-free version of this recipe… but what fun is that?
How to Make 4th of July Jello Shots with Alcohol
Make the Blue Layer First
- Dissolve the blue Jell-O in 1 cup of boiling water.
- Mix in ½ cup vodka and ½ cup cold water.
- Pour the mixture into your 1 oz shot glasses, filling up to one-third of the way. Place in the refrigerator to set, about 2-3 hours.
Next Make the White Layer
- Sprinkle 2 packets of unflavored gelatin over ½ cup of cold water. Let it sit for a few minutes to “bloom.”
- Add 1 cup boiling water and stir until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
- Stir in the sweetened condensed milk until well mixed. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
- Once the blue layer is set, gently pour the white gelatin mixture over it to fill another third of the glasses. Return to the refrigerator and let set for another 2-3 hours.
Now Make the Final Red Layer and Decor
- Red Layer (Top): Dissolve the red Jell-O in 1 cup of boiling water.
- Mix in ½ cup vodka and ½ cup cold water.
- Once the white layer is set, carefully add the red layer on top, filling up to the top of the glasses. Refrigerate until set, about 2-3 hours or overnight for best results.
- Optional Garnish… but I do it: Just before serving, top each Jell-O shot with a small dollop of whipped cream.
- Sprinkle red, white, and blue sprinkles over the whipped cream for a festive finish.
